50 years down the line, the Guild stands like a one man army doing yeoman service for possibly the most difficult and disputed sector of all - Production. The Guild however has never restricted itself within the confines of dispute solving; its vision has always been different and all encompassing with an aim of overall development of the entertainment industry.

Some of the better-known instances of the Guild achievements include:

  • The pioneering efforts against piracy including the setting up of a toll free Anti-Piracy hotline accessible across India.
  • Many successful negotiations with the Government including the freedom to import cinematography feature films without a license
  • The levy of excise duty on producers of television and advertising films
  • Talks with the Jammu & Kashmir government for shooting in Kashmir and financial assistance from Jammu & Kashmir Bank for doing so;
  • Sending numerous delegations all over in pursuit of cinematic opportunities- these are just the tip of the iceberg.

What started as an endeavour from the genuine stakeholders of the entertainment business has now gathered momentum like never before and the entertainment spectrum now finds its true representation with the Guild. Where else would you find television czars, leading video and multiplex owners and renowned film makers all under one umbrella?

Today, with the contours of entertainment undergoing a paradigm shift, the Guild is a body that is elevating itself to newer heights by being forever conscious of technological advancements. The Guild firmly believes that many new opportunities exist for the production sector in particular and the entertainment industry as a whole.

As its primary agenda for the next few months, the Guild will take initiatives to engage all the stakeholders in a constructive dialogue. It will also leverage the strengths of organisations like FICCI and CII to expand the market for Indian films and TV programmes. It will also fight all attempts by certain trade bodies to impose restrictive trade practices even as it looks at the new revenue streams in the fast emerging Digital World.
